The annual Met Gala, formal name being the Costume Institute Gala (and also known as the Met Ball), was held this past Monday, May 5th, 2014 at the prestigious Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The Met Ball has always been a much anticipated event since its inaugural gala in 1971. It celebrates the opening of the Costume Institute’s fashion exhibit for the season and it is also considered to be one of the most exclusive and successful fundraising events of the year. This year was no exception as the Met Ball’s red carpet dazzled with the gowns and suits worn by the star studded guest list.
A big crowd favorite were couples – most notably actress Blake Lively and husband actor Ryan Reynolds. Blake made jaws drop with her exquisitely custom made gown by Gucci, featuring beautiful embellishments throughout, a plunging neckline, cinched waist, and a luxurious cape that cascaded down her back. She then topped off the look with her hair done into glamorous curls, Old Hollywood style. Ryan also wore Gucci and looked handsome in a dark blue velvet suit, complemented with a crisp white shirt and brown bow tie. Other couples that wowed were Beyonce and Jay-Z , Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, and Victoria and David Beckham.
One trend that seemed to work wonders for their wearers was the crop top. Rihanna looked elegant without sacrificing sexiness in her custom made Stella McCartney crop top ensemble. Featuring a white long sleeved crop top with a stylish back opening and floor length skirt with a slight train. The look fit the pop star perfectly as it was both sharply fashionable and youthfully fun.
Emma Stone also wowed in a vibrant crop top ensemble by Thakoon. Featuring a fuchsia sleeveless crop top and a hot pink floor length skirt, Emma also shared the same spirit as Rihanna – on trend high fashion, but keeping it fun and accessible.
