Reflecting on Martin Luther King Day

There’s always a reason for a celebration. January 20th is one of those days. What started with, “I Have A Dream,” became one of the most monumental moments in history. Across the country, speeches and commemorations were held in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.- a pivotal figure in the Civil Rights Movement.

It’s easy to celebrate a day or take a day off from work, but it’s crucial to remember what the cause of celebration is. Many Americans take this day to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through community outreach and service programs. In fact, reflecting on yesterday’s holiday, it’s intriguing and encouraging to witness the outreach programs people have participated in. Unlike other holidays, citizens took the time to involve themselves with strengthening communities, creating solutions to social problems, and ultimately move closer to King’s vision of a united community.

This holiday is truly remarkable. Though we may not head directly into the office on this day, we’re constantly working hard to perfect Dr. King’s visionary dream.
